Electrical District No. 3 was established on January 5, 1926, following Arizona's 1922 Electrical District Act, created to address rural electrification challenges as private utilities found it unprofitable to extend power lines to sparsely populated agricultural areas. The district currently serves an area of more than 350 square miles.
