How to read your FPL bill. Your FPL bill breaks down charges into energy charges (based on kilowatt-hours used), a fuel adjustment charge, storm protection fees, taxes, and any applicable late or returned payment charges. The Usage History section shows your consumption trend month over month. If your bill is higher than expected, compare your kWh usage to the same month in prior years, and check for changes in household usage patterns or new appliances.
How to lower your bill. FPL's Budget Billing program evens out seasonal swings by spreading costs based on a rolling 12-month average of your usage. If the challenge is timing cash flow rather than reducing recurring costs, Deferit's Pay-in-4 option can split your bill in 4 installments, subject to eligibility.
