Need to split your Reliant Energy bill into installments?
Reliant offers a Deferred Payment Plan (DPP) and payment extensions for customers facing financial difficulty. A payment extension gives extra time beyond the original due date under certain conditions and may result in a 5% late fee plus disconnection-related fees. The Deferred Payment Plan lets eligible customers pay their balance in installments alongside the regular monthly bill.
The Customer Assistance and Relief for Energy bills (CARE) program, funded by Reliant and customer contributions, helps customers facing financial hardship pay their electricity bills. State and local assistance programs may be available — contact 2-1-1 in Texas for referrals.
Reliant's Average Monthly Billing (AMB) spreads costs evenly across the year based on your last 12 months of usage. This smooths out high summer bills by deferring some peak-usage costs to lower-usage months. Eligibility applies.
If the goal is to pay the bill in full now and split the cost into smaller repayments, Deferit can pay an eligible Reliant Energy bill on your behalf and let you repay it in 4 smaller installments.

If you miss a payment, Reliant will issue a disconnection notice, which triggers a disconnection notice fee. Can I split my Reliant Energy bill? ›
Reliant does not offer a true equal-installment split of a current bill. Its Deferred Payment Plan (DPP) lets eligible customers pay a past-due balance in installments alongside their regular monthly bill. A payment extension gives extra time past the due date under certain conditions, though a 5% late fee may apply. For an actual split of your current bill into 4 bi-weekly installments paid upfront, Deferit can pay your Reliant Energy bill in full now and let you repay across 4 installments. Eligibility check before you commit.

Customer Service Tips for Reliant Energy Customers
Have these ready before you call. Your Reliant account number, billing ZIP code, service address, last bill amount, and preferred payment method. For residential service, call 1-866-222-7100 or 713-207-7777 (Houston local). For walk-up payment reconnect, call 1-877-734-7243 (Monday through Friday, excluding holidays).
How to read your Reliant Energy bill. A Reliant bill has two main components: Reliant's energy charges (your chosen plan rate times usage) and the TDU delivery charges (set by your local utility such as CenterPoint Energy, not by Reliant). If usage looks high, check the TDU section for demand spikes. Average Monthly Billing customers should review the settlement section at the end of the AMB period, when any difference between estimated and actual usage is reconciled.
How to lower your bill. Compare your current plan rate against other Reliant plans available at your address. Consider enrolling in Average Monthly Billing to avoid seasonal peaks. If the challenge is cash-flow timing rather than reducing your rate, Deferit's Pay-in-4 option can split your bill into 4 installments, subject to eligibility.
